TxDOT Bridge Replacement on US 287

5/8/2025

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be working on the US 287 Drainage Ditch Project to replace the bridge beginning May 19th. The project will consist of three phases and will take about ninteen months to complete. It will reduce US 287 down to two lanes of traffic and close the downtown intersections at Kearney. The lane reduction is anticipated to start in June.

This TxDOT project will coincide with the City of Clarendon's Downtown Revitalization Project (DRP) which will temporarily close the two hundred block of Kearney for new sidewalks, updated street lights, and improved handicap access. The DRP will begin soon, weather permitting.

The City has applied for the third phase of the DRP for new sidewalks, updated street lights, and improved handicap access for the three hundred block of Kearney Street.

The TxDOT bridge replacement project is fully funded by TxDOT and the DRP are mostly funded by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) passed through the Texas Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the City does contribute to these projects.

Contact City Administrator Brian Barboza at 806-874-3438 if you have any questions on these projects.
